The Rheumatology Research Foundation Introduces “The Rheumatology Lab”
Comprehensive Online Resource Spotlights the Advancements Made Through Foundation-Funded Rheumatology Research
Atlanta, Ga. (September 18, 2023) – The Rheumatology Research Foundation is pleased to announce its latest outreach initiative, the Rheumatology Lab. Through this new online resource, the Foundation can highlight Foundation-funded research, share new findings and perspectives, and amplify the voices of those affected by rheumatic disease. In the U.S. there are 54 million adults diagnosed with arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus, or fibromyalgia, with an expected 46% increase in demand for rheumatology services by the year 2025.
“The time is now to increase awareness while providing all-inclusive online resources where both patients and clinicians access insights into rheumatic disease research,” said V. Michael Holers, MD, Rheumatology Research Foundation President. “Those visiting the Rheumatology Lab can also witness patient stories – our Rheum Champions – as they share their messages of inspiration and hope for patients and caregivers across the rheumatic disease community.”
The Rheumatology Lab is educational and informative, serving as a source where patients can hear from a variety of researchers and clinicians, learn about the research process, connect with others within the rheumatic disease community, and access resources to help amplify awareness of the Foundation's important work. The platform will be updated regularly with new research findings and other patient-focused content.
The Foundation’s funding priorities center on recruitment, education & training, career development research, and innovative research. The Rheumatology Lab provides an excellent resource to help spread awareness and provide roadmaps for solutions.
“Our hope is that the Rheumatology Lab provides insightful information for all those within and near the rheumatic disease community,” said Holers. “By the year 2030, an estimated 67 million Americans will be living with a rheumatic disease, and the demand for rheumatologists is projected to exceed supply by over 4,700. Our mission is to advance research and training to improve the health of patients living with rheumatic disease, and that’s why our funding priorities are a main focal point of the Rheumatology Research Foundation’s overall mission.”
The Foundation is also proud to announce that its strong financial health has earned its 15th
consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
